We sometimes trust the wrong person with our most vulnerable self. We hope the other person will hold us and see us and respect us. Sometimes they don’t and they grab to whatever we have given to keep us close and small.
The Story behind the piece
Since the first time I saw the piece it gave me a mixed feeling between a soft embrace betweeen two lovers and a scene of constraint and possessiveness.
I tried to keep the ambivalence in the painting, making the bed softer and dreamy-like while keeping some tension in the character faces and arms.
The Flower
In the back of the figure the sheeds form a flower-like shape. I interpreted it as a rose, since in the general culture a rose is the symbol of traditional love.
