I was going through a very self-demanding with my painting and I needed a break from complex figures and big projects. So I got a printed copy of this bust and decided to let go experimenting with the background.

The process


I wasn’t sure on how the piece would compose with the broken background, so I started by testing the idea with pieces of paper. Then I broke an actual canvas to see the actual piece.

Then I painted the broken canvas, but it was a disaster, so I started again with a new one and then broke it. Finally I added some random splashed of paint to the figure and done.
