Wild spirit – November 2022

With this figure I wanted to experiment with colors and brushtrokes. The rocks, the skintones and the black hair of the panther offered the perfect canvas for it.

I tried to use colors present in Frank Frazetta illustrations, to try to make honor to the inspiration of the piece.

The Process

From the beginning I started with greenish and turquoise saturated shadows. I wanted to play with cold tones for the water and the rock and use warmer tones for the panther and the girl, specially in the main view.

I played with the idea of a sharp OSL from the side, but ended up deciding it was better to use a smoother transition to the colder tones from the back side.

It was also interesting to transform the lion into a panther and use the challenge to get a deeper understanding of black fur under different light evironments.
