Dino Racer
Standing up after falling – April to June 2022
Sculpture by Ismael Nieto
Scale 75 mm
In private collection
This figure represents the bonding between a rider and their companion. Although I have my contradictions regarding the property and use of animals I know for sure the bond created when a riding a horse is very special. In the original figure the dinosaur has a number 1 medal hanging, and the scene represents the joy from winning the race. I wanted to express the love and trust even after a defeat so I changed the medal and added snow and a tear to the girl.
The Challenge
I painted this figure as a part of a challenge with two good friends. All 3 of us agreed to paint the figure at the same time, but representing in the ambiance a different season of the year. Sadly there were only three of us, so we do not have a summer version. Here you can see the Autum version by Eloi Ribas and the spring version by Pablo Lopez (aka Paloji).
My aproach to represent winter was to integrate the tones of the dinosaur with the ambience and focus on colder colors. I also added some hair texture as I relate hair in animals with colder landscapes.
A Tribute to my Story
I started to paint this figure during the last months of a recovery from a lesion I got falling from a horse while riding. Although the recovery process and the lesion itself have been a hard experience for the las year, It is still love the feeling I get when I think about the horse I was riding that day.
When I first saw this figure I knew it had to be a tribute to the lesion. That is another reason to change a little the original narrative and add some snow to the girl (as if she has fallen and got a little bit of snow all over her) and tell the story of love and respect despite the loss.
